How I started off with motorcycle riding... My father bought me my first bike when I was 9 years old, a 90cc road scrambler. Then after a year I started entering the local motocross club races, the first one in Pietermaritzburg, most of the races I finished around 3rd or 4th. In 1983 I got my first sponsor from Mr Smith, Honda Pietermaritzburg. Then I started to perform a lot better that’s when I started racing against Rex Staten, he was my goal to beat.
